Pearl
Jackie Kay wrote recently in PBS Bulletin, "when the chips are down, poetry
comes." Ain't that the truth.
Pearl is a selection of poems written over a fifteen year period. They reflect family and other relationships over this period, coming out, staying in, various meditations on bleak mental states, and for good measure, musings on how biotechnology might affect our lives, which has fascinated me for many years. Some of these poems were written a long time ago, by someone who now reads like a different person. Certainly my more recent poems are less downbeat, and I hope they will get an airing soon.
Thanks to Robert and Joy at the Selkirk Lapwing Press for publishing Pearl.
